Harnessing a combination of innovation and entrepreneurship, Cairn India is one of the most significant oil and gas exploration and production companies in India. The company was incorporated in 2006 by Cairn Energy PLC. The success of Cairn has world class oil reserves in fastest-growing economies in the world. Cairn India operates two processing plants, 11 offshore platforms, 200km of sub-sea pipelines and has operations spanning the Indian continent. The Company operates the largest producing oil field in the Indian private sector, has pioneered the use of cutting-edge technology to extend production life and have a world-class resource base, with an interest in 15 blocks in India. The company’s operating sites are ISO 14001 certified and progressing towards OSHAS 18001 certification. Three of fields – Ravva, Lakshmi and Gauri – are producing more than 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day on behalf of Cairn India and its joint venture (JV) partners, and the company sell their oil to four major refineries across India and gas to both public and private buyers. Cairn India went through three large-scale organisational changes in 2006. First was the outsourcing of transactional processes in many functions to a third-party vendor. Second was the relocation of the Corporate Office from Chennai to Gurgaon, near New Delhi, and the third was a restructuring of the Cairn India organisation. During the year 2006 the company acquired all the shares of Cairn India Holdings Ltd (CIHL) and consequently CIHL has become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. CIHL is also a holding Company for 26 other companies. Consequently, all these companies have become subsidiaries to the company automatically. The company working closely alongside both central and state governments and have operational partnership with ONGC, Videocon, Tata, Marubeni and ENI. Cairn India aim to make a positive impact wherever they operate to maintain the position of immeasurable and with the dynamic growth of the Indian economy set to continue. The company has a combination of skills across the whole spectrum of upstream activities. With more than 30 hydrocarbon discoveries to the company’s credit and also Cairn India is one of the lowest cost producers in South Asia. The company plans to maximise recovery from the thick section of the oil-bearing reservoir rock in the Barmer Hill formation. Civil construction work is now underway to meet the planned first oil production from Mangala in 2009 and work is also ongoing to establish optimal Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques in the Rajasthan block with a view to extending plateau production and increasing ultimate recovery of oil. Cairn India is set to play an important role in the development of the oil and gas sector. By 2010, estimates suggest that will operate approximately 20% of India’s oil production.
