free donuts on National Doughnut Day

June 5 is a day to remember, and in case you’re not aware of the significance of the first Friday in June, mark it on your calendar: It’s National Doughnut Day.
According to Dunkin Donuts, the holiday originated in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served soldiers donuts during World War donuts
Dunkin, Krispe Kreme and LaMar’s are celebrating the occasion by offering perks, so read closely.
At Dunkin Donuts, customers who purchase any beverage will receive a free doughnut of their choice (excluding the Croissant Donut and Cheesecake Squares). The offer is valid at any area DD while supplies last.
Krispe Kreme is giving a free doughnut to their Facebook friends, so get to clickin’ on that “like” button if you’re in the mood for something sweet. Once you “Like” their Facebook page, Krispe Kreme will send you a coupon, which you can present to any location nationwide.
LaMar’s Donuts is giving away one free doughnut Friday, no strings attached. LaMar’s is also partnering with The Salvation Army by donating proceeds of their sales from Friday to childhood hunger. Customers can also donate here.
You can also celebrate by trying the grilled cheese doughnuts at Tom and Chee in Olathe, or if you’re in the mood for a midday snack, Johnny’s Donuts in Kansas City serves burgers with their glazed doughnut holes. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, Harold’s Fried Chicken & Donuts in Lawrence serves a fried chicken breast between a toasted maple doughnut.
Unfortunately the holiday falls too early for the anticipated opening of Doughnut Lounge in Westport, but there’s always next year.
